UPSC Geologist Eligibility Criteria Overview
Nationality: Applying
candidates must be citizen of one of the below given Country and having a
certificate of eligibility from the government of India -
- India, or
- Nepal, or
- Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who has came before 1st January, 1962 with the purpose of permanently settling in India. or
- An Indian who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the objective of permanently settling in India
UPSC Qualification:
Qualification for these given posts are valid if the candidates has completed
from a university which has been incorporated by act of the central or state
Legislature in India or an Educational Institution established by an Act of
Parliament or declared to be deemed university under section 3 of the
University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956).
Geologist:
Candidates, who want to apply for this post, must have Master’s degree in one
of the following subjects which are given below-
- Geological science
- Geology
- Geo exploration
- Marine Geology
- Earth Science and Resource management
- Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies
- Petroleum Geosciences
- Petroleum Exploration
- Geochemistry
For Geophysicists:
Applying candidates should have degree in M.Sc. in physics/ applied physic/
geophysics/ marine geophysics/ technology/ exploration geophysics or applies
geophysics from any recognized university according to the rule which has been
given above.
For Chemists:
Candidates, who want to get the post of chemists, must have degree in M. Sc. in
Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry from a University
incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature or other educational
Institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or which has been according
to the above given acts.
Junior
Hydrogeologists (Scientist-B) Group ‘A’ in Central Ground Water Board: Applicants
should be masters in Geology or Applied Geology or marine Geology from a
university incorporated by an Act of the central or Masters Degree in
Hydrogeology from a recognized university or under section 3 of the university
grant commission.
UPSC Age Limit:
- The minimum age of the candidates should not be below 21 years and the maximum age must be 32 years for the posts of Geologist, Geophysicists, and Chemists.
- For Junior Hydrogeologists (Scientist-B) post the maximum age should be 35 years.
- The age relaxation of the candidates for various categories will be as per the rules of the government which will be given below in this table-

Attempts: General contenders may attempt this examination four times and
